Toronto is the perfect location for a date, be it during the day or at night. However, if you live in the city or nearby, you may be trying to find some new places to visit and are looking for a little inspiration.

Fortunately, there is always something different to discover in the city and this makes it an excellent backdrop for a date. Depending on the neighbourhood you visit, you’ll have many great options to choose from.

Want to plan the perfect date night, Toronto style? If you’re looking to organize a unique outing for you and your significant other, read on. We’ve compiled a list of the best date night ideas and daytime activities in the great city of Toronto.

Distillery District

The Distillery District is well-known due to its historic reputation. Full of cobblestoned streets and Victorian architecture, this neighbourhood was made a national historic site in 1988. If you and your other half are history or architecture enthusiasts, this is a great place for a daytime stroll.

This neighbourhood isn’t just known for its historical past; it’s also a great social spot, full of restaurants and bars. You can grab a beer with your date on Trinity Street during the summer, enjoying the public square and the hustle and bustle of the area. Alternatively, you can go indoors in the winter and enjoy a meal or drink in a distillery-turned-bar.

One of the best things about the Distillery District is that it is a pedestrianized area, meaning that you can enjoy a date night away from city traffic.

West Queen West

West Queen West (also called the Art and Design district) is a great date night spot for art lovers. This hip neighbourhood is only about 2 km long, but in addition to its art galleries, it also has many vibrant bars and restaurants.

If you’re planning a daytime date, then you could go for brunch at one of the neighbourhood’s many excellent eatery options. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or eat everything, there are many different restaurant options to suit all lifestyle choices.

You could also start your date in the afternoon at one of Toronto’s most famous art galleries before ending up at a cool bar. If the night is going well, why not continue to one of West Queen West’s renowned restaurants or clubs? This neighbourhood is one to visit if you like your dates filled with great food and drinks.

Harbourfront

Harbourfront is arguably the best destination for a date night in Toronto during summer or winter. In summer, you can enjoy open-air concerts as well as daytime fairs and theatre performances at the Harbourfront Centre. An outdoor ice rink is assembled during the winter, perfect for couples who are looking for a fun date activity.

If you want a day of lying in the sun, then you can head to HTO Park and soak up some rays with your other half. Alternatively, you can enjoy a romantic night-time walk along the lakefront, enjoying the park when it is lit up at night.

The Village

Last but not least is The Village. Also known as Church and Wellesley, this neighbourhood is LGBT-oriented, with many bars and restaurants filling its streets. The best time to visit the area is during Gay Pride month when outdoor festivities and fairs are adorning the streets.

If you and your partner are fans of the TV show Queer as Folk, then you can take a daytime walk through the neighbourhood and spot famous filming locations from the TV series. There are also many great independent shops lining the Village’s streets, such as Grapefruit, where you can buy your partner a gift on your date. Other date night ideas in the Village include drinks at one of its many LGBT-friendly bars or clubs.
